Description
Bukhara deer (Cervus elaphus bactrianus) are related to red deer and the American elk. They are found in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, living in arid woodlands and plains, occasionally on mountainsides and moorlands.
Habitat destruction and hunting has lead to the decline of the Bukhara deer and they are now listed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature as a threatened species.
This fine stag of 10 years age was photographed at the Highland Wildlfe Park, Scotland.
