Description
Red deer stags crossing a small river in the Scottish Highlands in mid March, still carrying antlers from the previous year. The antlers are cast off late March into April, depending on how good or poor the available feeding is. Antlers increase in size each year up to a royal stag with 12 or more points or tines until a stag reaches old age, when the trend is smaller antlers with less tines.
